Taylor Joslin’s Artist Statement:

Art is a way for me to express myself. It allows me to escape reality and throw my emotions out on the canvas. Whether those emotions are good or bad, I am able to show them through the creation of art.

I wish to study art because it will allow me to continue improving and learning about something I am passionate about. Savannah College of Art and Design, where I will be attending next fall, allows me to set my main focus on art. I won't have to take a bunch of math, science, and English credits and my main classes will be art-based. This is something extremely beneficial because I will be able to grow my ability to create art and turn it into a career based focus. I plan on majoring in graphic design which will allow me to continue my education and love for art but also give me practical job opportunities. With this major, I can work for any company creating anything I want. A lot of people think that studying and gaining a degree in art closes lots of opportunities for the future and that there isn't a whole lot of room for income. I am here to prove them wrong. Art is something that you can use in any aspect of your life. There are so many forms of art that are used in the world and I want to represent that.

Going into a life centered around art will boost my mental health. I already turn to art when anything complicated comes my way. I also turn to art when anything great comes my way. Being able to create art for a living will allow me to live my best life. I won't have the stress of working at a job I don't really care about. I will spend all of my doing something I love. I wish to study art because creating beauty brings peace to me. It allows me to escape the world and just be who I want to be. I want to show people the amazingness that art brings into this world. Any and every medium should be presented to the world because art is something that saves people. Art is something that brings people together. It brings out emotions and it's something that everyone should be able to experience. Whether it be creating it or admiring it, everyone should be able to encounter art and I want to give them that opportunity.
