Michael Askew

Michael Askew

Michael Askew has been a large-format monochrome photographer and a woodworker for four decades and counting.  He has had a number of one man and group photography exhibits, including at the National Cathedral in Washington, DC, and has been featured in a number of fine art galleries around the US.  He has also had his woodworking exhibited in collections in the Plano Art Center and other venues.

Michael and his wife Stephanie moved to Redstone in 2012 and purchased the Redstone Art Gallery, which they owned and operated for the next decade.  Michael has also taught photography classes in DC, Dallas, and Redstone.  Michael has been Vice President of the Redstone Historical Society, and a board member of the Redstone Caucus.  He and Stephanie also founded and operate the Crystal Valley Players, a non-profit association dedicated to music and arts education and performances in the Roaring Fork Valley.

With Stephanie’s writing and direction, they co-produced an historical musical entitled Jack Roberts Live, bringing the paintings and characters of Jack Roberts’ to life with music, dance, and costumes.  Michael also played drums in Stephanie’s musicals and in local jazz bands, and with the Symphony in the Valley’s swing band.  Now retired from the Redstone Art Gallery ownership, he is moving on to more photography, woodworking, teaching, and traveling.
